The Horizon Magazine works with our core team of Editors & Creative leads to produce youth content from the ground up. Through submissions from both our staff as well as the public, we are able to meticulously curate the monthly edition.

Kristina Yu
Hi! I’m Kristina, currently a senior at Lord Byng Secondary School, and I am the vice president and head of the creative department at Horizon magazine. I am super grateful to be working with other talented and passionate members as we create this magazine that impacts and connects youths in Vancouver. As the creative director, I am constantly inspired by the dedication and innovation our writers and photographers possess, making the magazine's creative process truly exciting and unique. Finally, watching Horizon grow from a few creators into a team of more than 50 extremely talented youths was truly a special experience, and we are always excited to be working with new artists and writers, so do not hesitate to contact and show us your talents if you want to be a part of the family!

Sophie Xia is a published author in their senior year at York House School. As the Editor-in-Chief at The Horizon, they guide the publication's editorial vision and oversee the graphic design and aesthetic direction of each magazine issue. Sophie’s writing style evokes emotions like nostalgia, offering readers a reflective and comforting experience. Writing continues to be a way for Sophie to process complex thoughts and memories. Their dedication and artistic sensibility contribute significantly to The Horizon’s overall creative impact. Looking forward to a remarkable year at The Horizon.
Vice Chief Creative Officer
Joy Fan
Joy Fan is a grade 12 student attending Lord Byng Secondary School in Vancouver. She enjoys dancing and paddling in her spare time. As the vice chief creative officer this year, she is excited to work on a variety of content, including writing and art designs, and particularly, to ensure the smooth running of Horizon's content. Looking ahead, her next step to achieve will be to incorporate more local news and issues into the magazine, raising awareness among high school students across the province.

Eden Chen
Eden is a student at Lord Byng Secondary School and serves as the Lead Photographer Columnist for Horizon magazine. This role provides Eden with the opportunity to collaborate closely with a team of talented photographers, transforming creative ideas into impactful visual stories. Through this work, Eden ensures that each edition reflects diverse narratives and unique voices. Eden constantly seeks innovative approaches to how stories are told through photography. By experimenting with different styles and techniques, Eden aims to evoke deeper emotional connections with the audience. As the magazine continues to grow, Eden is particularly excited about welcoming new contributors, believing that their diverse perspectives and bold ideas will further enrich Horizon’s content. Dedicated to fostering creativity and collaboration, Eden strives to inspire more artists through the lens.

Isita Ghanta
Isita Ghanta is a daughter, a sister, and a friend. But before everything, she was a girl who couldn’t quit arguing about the horridness of Macbeth and enjoyed praise. A person who now, understands and sympathizes with the character she once despised, wanting so much just like Macbeth, relating with his ambition and his simple want of aspiring more than he can have. To the world, Isita is the girl who always waves back, the social butterfly who brings joy to those around her. To her parents, she might seem like someone squandering potential on daydreams. Yet, the truth is that she is all but a tired soul who finds solace in the warmth of her friends, Sanrio keychains, and the comfort of writing. Isita lives parts of her dream with Horizon, where she cherishes her community and engages in work she loves. Her journey is that of a young woman navigating life with empathy and creativity.
Lead STEM Columnist
Jisara Wuttikreekiat
Jisara is a high school senior at Sentinel Secondary School in West Vancouver, British Columbia. She has a tremendous passion for STEM and wishes to pursue engineering in her future studies. She has always loved doing research, and with years of experience writing several research articles during her previous high school years, she is proud to take on the initiative as a Lead STEM Columnist for Horizon. In her free time, she enjoys strolling in nature with a friend, soaking in the fresh air, catching up on life, and appreciating the different aspects of the world. As a member of Horizon, Jisara hopes to build new relationships with those who share similar interests and share her knowledge with others while developing her leadership skills in the process.

Dharaneeswar Dadibathina is a Grade 11 student at Lord Byng Secondary School who loves to write. He enjoys creating stories and experimenting with different styles of prose and article writing. He is part of the school choir and finds singing a rewarding outlet.
Dharaneeswar has a strong interest in physics and math too and is fascinated by how these subjects help us understand the world. In his free time, he enjoys reading mystery and thriller books like The Girl on the Train and Snow Crash. He also likes watching TV shows and science fiction movies such as The Big Bang Theory, Interstellar, and Tenet. Besides these interests, Dharaneeswar likes to relax by playing badminton. His passion for sharing his ideas makes him a dedicated member of the creative team.
Dharaneeswar
​Leon Zhang is a Grade 12 student at Lord Byng Secondary School in pursuit of translating his daydreams, personal experiences, and curiosities into films and creative writing. He aspires to deepen his understanding of the human experience and his identity through storytelling. As a founding writer of Horizon Magazine, Leon is always looking for stories that can express his past and capture the imagination— striving to make sense of life however he can. To be able to express his feelings and create powerful lasting pieces of literature for posterity is an ambition of his, and his pieces for Horizon are his great start. He aims to create relatable, yet deep imitations of feelings and experiences into creative poems and prose that other people can find solace and comfort in. Leon is versed in all aspects of life, from basketball to Adventure Time, and will probably be able to relate with anyone who might have any interest!

Andrew Miao is a student at Lord Byng Secondary, currently in Grade 12. Andrew is a thinker, a dreamer, and a creator who spends his days exploring the intricacies of life. He especially loves studying advanced mathematics and physics. His journey began with a love for stories that could capture the world around him, transforming moments of curiosity into meaningful expressions. To those who know him, he’s a quiet observer with a keen sense of humor, someone who can find a connection with others on anything from music to animals. As a contributor to Horizon Magazine, Andrew seeks to turn his observations and experiences into poetry and prose that resonate with others. Whether he's reflecting on life's complexities or simply daydreaming about new ideas, Andrew is always striving to understand and convey the depths of human emotions in ways that provide comfort and relatability to those around him.

Ryan is a senior at Port Moody Secondary and serves as a photographer for Horizon Magazine. His passion for photography has been a constant throughout his life, as he strives to capture stories and moments in images wherever he goes. Being able to utilize his love for photography to serve his community through Horizon has been nothing short of delightful, and hopes to invoke emotions across the spectrum in readers throughout his work. When he’s not behind the camera, Ryan enjoys exploring new recipes, trying out new restaurants, taking “power” naps, and binge-watching his favorite movies and TV shows. In the future, Ryan aspires to pursue a career in business consulting, aiming to bridge the fields of technology and finance. He welcomes anyone to say hi and connect with him!
Ryan Guerville
Entering his senior year at Lord Byng Secondary School, Brian is thrilled to serve as a photographer for The Horizon. Ever since picking up a camera as a baby, Brian has developed a deep connection to his camera. Although he dropped photography for a few years, Brian picked up his camera again last year, joining his first media team to challenge himself. You may have even seen him at some business case competitions or Model UN conferences! Brian is eager to contribute to the visual aspects of The Horizon, creating magazines from students, for students. When he isn’t busy with school, you can find Brian scarfing down fried chicken for the nth time that week, going on spontaneous trips to catch the sunset at the beach, and exploring the restaurant recommendations that he finds on TikTok with his friends. He looks forward to seeing his photography works in the magazines and seeing how this magazine will take off.

Alex is a 17-year-old lad who studies at Lord Byng Secondary School's strings mini program.
Alex’s hobbies span a variety of interests that balance creativity, outdoor adventure, and technical skills. Fishing and boating allow him to run away from the busy city life while sailing offers both a sense of tranquility and challenge. His passion for photography complements these activities, as he captures stunning moments on the water and in the outdoors. Alex enjoys film photography as it gives more of a challenge than digital as every shoot needs to be perfect. Alex has been playing cello since 8 years old. He is in many orchestras like the Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony and chamber groups. His interest in motorsport reflects his love for speed and precision, combining excitement with focus. These diverse hobbies enrich his life with a blend of relaxation, creativity, and adrenaline.

Lucy is a student at St. John’s School, acting as a photographer for Horizon Magazine.
This role demands creative thinking and consistent adaptability, using images captured from a moment of time from a real-world perspective to evoke ideas and themes rather than through words.
By allowing concepts to grow into true artworks of stories, Lucy will help Horizon Magazine paint their designs through artistic approaches of all genres of photography.
Lucy aims to bring out the true desires of their writer’s oeuvres with her own, through unique levels of storytelling through pictorial lenses as best as she can to engage readers with a meaningful vision.

Audrey, a student at Magee Secondary School in Vancouver, is passionate about photography and social justice. As an executive in her school’s Social Justice Club, she advocates for sustainability and plans to pursue a career in sustainable design.
Through her photography, Audrey captures unique moments and emotions, aiming to inspire action and create a positive impact on the world.
Audrey Lu
Jeffrey hails from Shenzhen and is a student at Nanshan Foreign Language Senior High School, currently serving as a photographer for Horizon Magazine. His passion for photography was ignited in childhood through the lens of his parents’ camera. Upon receiving his first mirrorless camera in the 10th grade, he embarked on a journey of professional study in this art. After a year in the school’s photography club, he assumed the role of president, contributing numerous promotional photos and videos for the school. Additionally, he is a signed contributor for Visual China. Jeffrey aspires to provide meticulously curated, high-quality images for the magazine, viewing them as a vital component of its promotion, and he is committed to helping the organization thrive in every possible way.
